§ 01 / WHAT COOKIES ARE
Cookies are small text files your browser stores at the request of a website. They're how websites remember things between page loads — your language preference, items in your cart, whether you're logged in.
Some cookies are essential for the site to work. Others are optional — they add features or, in many cases, track you across sites for advertising. We use the first kind.
§ 02 / OUR STANCE
CAVOK uses a minimal set of cookies. We do not use:
- Advertising cookies (Google Ads, Meta Pixel, etc.)
- Cross-site behavioural tracking
- Third-party analytics that track users across sites
- Social media tracking pixels
- Retargeting cookies
The cookies we set are either strictly necessary for the site to function, or they're aggregated privacy-respecting analytics that don't identify you personally.
§ 03 / WHAT WE SET
Every cookie CAVOK sets, why, how long it lasts, and whether it's required:
| Cookie | Category | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
cavok_session |
Strictly necessary | Identifies your browsing session — cart contents, login state. | Session |
cavok_csrf |
Strictly necessary | Security token that prevents cross-site request forgery. | Session |
cavok_lang |
Preference | Remembers your language choice (EN / ES). | 1 year |
cavok_consent |
Strictly necessary | Records your cookie consent choice. | 1 year |
cavok_cart |
Functional | Stores items in your shopping cart. | 30 days |
_pk_id |
Analytics (privacy-respecting) | Matomo self-hosted analytics — visitor ID, anonymised. | 13 months |
_pk_ses |
Analytics (privacy-respecting) | Matomo session ID, deleted at end of session. | 30 minutes |
Note on analytics: We use Matomo, self-hosted on our own infrastructure, with anonymised IP addresses. No data leaves our servers. No data goes to Google, Facebook, or any third-party network.
§ 04 / MANAGE PREFERENCES
Below is a simulation of the cookie categories and your current selection. On a real site you'd toggle these and the choices would be saved to the cavok_consent cookie. In this demo they're fixed:
§ 05 / THIRD-PARTY
The only third-party cookies that might appear on cavokworld.com come from embedded content we've chosen to include:
- YouTube embeds — if we embed a video. YouTube may set cookies. We use
youtube-nocookie.comembeds which minimise tracking. - Vimeo embeds — same situation. We use
player.vimeo.comwith privacy-respecting parameters. - Payment processors — Stripe and PayPal set cookies on their checkout pages, governed by their own privacy policies.
If you'd rather not have any third-party cookies, the easiest path is to use the browser controls in § 06 or to disable third-party cookies entirely in your browser.
§ 06 / BROWSER CONTROLS
You can manage cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers let you:
- Block all cookies
- Block only third-party cookies
- Delete cookies when you close the browser
- See a list of cookies set by any site
Browser-specific guides:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions
Note: blocking all cookies will break parts of the site — cart, login, language preference. The "strictly necessary" cookies we describe in § 03 cannot be replaced with another mechanism.
